Restoration of Saint Anne’s Chapel

The project restores Saint Anne’s Chapel and its landscape setting near Pelhřimov. It retains the historic masonry and adds a new roof clearly separated from the original fabric. A self-supporting weathering-steel structure protects the chapel from further decay without reconstructing a lost historic form. Existing frescoes and paintings are to be conserved, while wall openings remain unfilled.

Reclaimed solid bricks form a permeable floor that allows water to drain through the interior. Self-seeded vegetation is removed selectively, mature trees remain, and views towards the chapel and out across the landscape are reopened. Grass, concrete slabs and compacted gravel paths organise the immediate surroundings, with different build-ups responding to use while keeping part of the ground permeable.

The existing footpath from a nearby cottage area is renewed and joined by approaches from the west and south-east. The western route also accommodates maintenance vehicles and access during weddings; the eastern route offers a longer walk with a view of the chapel’s southern side. A gathering area to the south provides seating, lighting, two parking spaces and a shelter with storage for events.
