Culture in Public Space

The proposal extends the programme of the House of Culture in Žďár nad Sázavou into the surrounding public realm. Two principal pedestrian routes connect the building with the city centre and the River Sázava. A southern boulevard leads from the centre to the main entrance, while a western route continues from the glazed main hall through an outdoor stage and park to the riverbank.

The outdoor stage is formed as a raised landscape with seating for 1,000 visitors. Space below can accommodate film screenings, lectures and theatre, while broad steps at the end of the route provide access close to the water. A new fountain in front of the House of Culture refers to the city’s coat of arms through four pointed elements. Existing artworks remain within the park, and further locations are reserved for new installations.

Parking is removed from the immediate frontage of the cultural building, with the existing number of spaces retained elsewhere in the site. Servicing and emergency access remain possible, and the riverside cycle route continues through the area. Permeable parking drains into planted strips, the entrance plaza and boulevard feed retention tanks, and compacted gravel areas infiltrate rain locally.
