Provodov Village Green
The proposal for Provodov’s village green builds on its preserved settlement structure and an anonymous survey of local residents. Irregular parking and poor pedestrian permeability were identified as the main problems. Short-stay spaces are therefore concentrated beside the shop and pub, the carriageway is narrowed, and two bus stops are replaced by one central stop serving both directions.
The bus turning area moves closer to the municipal building and is raised to pedestrian level. This slows traffic while linking the school, shop, fire station and municipal office. An unused well in front of the school becomes a drinking fountain, with four lime trees shading benches and a gathering place. A statue, roadside shrine, Christmas tree and traditional maypole are marked by a shared circular paving motif.
Compacted gravel paths and driveways retain permeability and reflect the rural setting. An orchard avenue of apple, cherry and rowan trees follows the road, complemented by lime and honey locust trees where less crown space is available. Planted swales retain water between the road and footpath, and a storage tank collects runoff from paved areas for reuse.
