Masaryk Square

The competition proposal for Masaryk Square in Uherské Hradiště establishes a consistent system of surfaces, furniture and lighting across the historic public space. Large-format paving defines the principal area around the Church of Saint Francis Xavier, while compacted gravel beneath a lime-tree avenue provides shade for everyday use. A Baroque fountain, the exposed foundations of the former Church of Saint George and routes into surrounding streets remain part of the legible spatial order.

The square is equipped for different civic events without extensive temporary alterations. Power connections and clear areas support Christmas markets, a summer film festival, sports events and regional celebrations. A kiosk with public toilets is integrated into the tree line and provides seating, complemented by a drinking fountain, bicycle stands, underground waste containers and recycling points.

The traffic arrangement retains twelve parking spaces along Poštovní Street while limiting vehicles in the main pedestrian area. Lighting combines street lamps, directional fixtures and recessed ground lights at selected elements. The plan allows ordinary daily use and large gatherings to alternate while retaining accessible movement across the square.
