Amstelveen Theatre Fly Tower

The new fly tower for the theatre in Amstelveen expanded the capacity of the fly loft and the stage machinery and markedly improved working conditions for productions. The extension also increased seating capacity and improved sight lines from the existing auditorium.

The tower is clad in a light, durable skin that provides acoustic insulation with minimal intervention in the existing structure. The design uses 500 convex aluminium panels in a gold tone, fully recyclable and virtually maintenance-free. During the day the golden facade reflects daylight, creating a shifting play of light and shadow and giving the theatre a distinctive, easily recognisable presence in the public realm.
